Equanimity

The term equanimity appeared in the hot trend today. It is related to one of the entries in the Oscars. But I would like to approach this topic from the definition and its relevancy in the meditation.

Equanimity is defined as peaceful balance of the mind. It is also called the essence of enlightenment because only through equanimity ones can attain enlightenment.

In meditation, there is no sensation like pain. We learn how to observer it. When the pain tries to overpower you, try to find the centre of the pain and see how far the influence goes. You can also divide the area as if it is someone else's pain that you are observing. Slowly you will detach the pain from your body. Keep trying. Be as equanimous as possible. Soon, you will reach the stage where pain will not bother you anymore.

Failure of E-Commerce

In a study of e-commerce by Hostway and Zeus Technology on the British online shoppers, success rate in e-commerce is not so high due to some simple facts.

  • The average British online shopper spends an average of 2.5 days per year waiting for websites to load.
  • In waiting for sites to load, many potential customers abandon their shopping carts, which results in approximately $8.5 billion in lost sales.
  • Of the over 5 transactions abandoned per person over the last 12 months, 46% of consumers blae their actions on slow load time.
  • 24% of online shoppers abandoned carts due to advertising annoyances.
  • 16% abandoned carts due to faulty navigation.
  • 13% jumped ship as a result of poor internal linking structures.

Although the study is done in UK, the result will not differ much if it is conducted in US or anywhere in the world as the results as mostly related to human behavior.

Haven Home - Custom Modular Homes

The industry has adopted child's play of block-building into the new home construction. Fully customizable, the construction of a whole house could be completed in as short as 32 hours. It is like untangling a big jigsaw puzzle. The blocks are pre-fabricated at and transported from the factory located far away. A gigantic crane then places the pieces together in the correct slots.

Watch the video here on how it is being done.

Apart from saving money, it is also a big time saver. Instead of having to wait for many weeks or even months, it now only takes few days to construct. The saving in time also translates into the cost saving. We can also tell the designer a specific design we want to have in the house. Once the customization is completed, the factory will build the blocks and components accordingly.

Shortened Earth Day Due to Chile Earthquake

The 2010 Chile earthquake might have lasted for 3 minutes, but the magnitude of 8.8 on 27 February 2010 at 03.34 local time was recorded as the seventh strongest in magnitude.

NASA scientists also calculated that the strength may have changed the entire Earth's rotation and the days shortened as the result. According to research scientist Richard Gross at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif, the Earth day is shortened by 1.26 microseconds. It was said that the change should be permanent. It was also found out that the Earth's figure axis moved by about 3 inches (8 cm or 27 milliarcseconds) due to the impact.

Six years ealier in 2004, the 9.1 Sumatran earthquake set off a deadly tsunami. The Earth's days were shortened by 6.8 microseconds and the axis shifted by about 2.76 inches (7 cm, or 2.32 milliarcseconds). In the past strong earthquakes have altered Earth's days and its axis.
